 Structural Funds
In order to support the realization of a single market and in the future prospects of an Economic and Monetary Union, the European Union has decided, as of 1988, to promote an economic and social cohesion policy directed to reduce the gaps between development levels of least-favoured areas.
Such Community Policy in favour of the Regions with the support of local actors, is based on the development of multi-annual programmes cofinanced through the four European Structural Funds.

1. ERDF (European Regional Development Fund): the European Regional Development Fund sustains the professional admittance of the unemployed workers and the disadvantaged ones, in particular through the financing of training activities and supporting employment systems.

2. ESF (European Social Fund): finances infrastructures, productive investments for the creation of workplaces, local development projects and aids to the SME (Small and Medium Sized Enterprises).

3. FIFG (Financial Instrument for Fisheries Guidance): Financial Tool allowing to guide Fisheries referring to the compliance and the modernization of the sector’s infrastructure.

4. EAGGF - Guideline (European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund): the section "Guideline" of the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund mainly finances the activities of rural development and support to agriculture for the backward areas.

A « Cohesion Fund » created in 1993 exists moreover. In order to support the less prosperous states of the European Union: Spain, Greece, Ireland and Portugal. Such a Fund refers to the whole territory and mostly finances large projects related to Transport and Infrastructure.
