Location:
Italy is a peninsula situated in the Southern centred
part of Europe and possesses numerous islands. The
country is composed of 20 very heterogeneous regions
and subdivided into 103 provinces. Thirteen regions
participate in the Programme.
Economic activities: With a well established
market economy, Italy is the world's 5th largest
economic power. Beyond a visible agricultural sector,
the country is competitive in industries such as
iron, aluminium and the automotive industry, without
forgetting, obviously, tourism.
Socio-cultural activities: The cultural history
of the country is extremely rich and it is possible
to find everywhere treaures of Italian art. Architecture,
sculpture and painting: splendid collections are
exposed in museums, palaces and cities.
The cinema, the theatre and the Opera are greatly
developed artistic fields.

- 25th April 1945: liberation day
- 2 June 1946: proclamation of the Republic
- 1951: accession to the ECSC (First stage of the
EU)
- 1955: membership to the UN
