The Western Mediterranean Area is composed of
European regions belonging to seven states: Spain,
France, Italy, Portugal, The United Kingdom, Greece
and Malta.
The geographic picture comprises the following
regions:
- Spain: Six regional autonomies and
two independent cities: Andalusia, Aragon,
Catalonia, Balearic islands, Murcia, Valence,
Ceuta and Melilla.
- France: Four regions: Corsica, Languedoc-Rousillon,
Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Rhône-Alpes.
- Greece: the whole territory.
- Italy: Thirteen regions: Basilicata,
Calabria, Campania, Emilia Romagna, Lazio,
Liguria, Lombardy, Umbria, Piedmont, Sardinia,
Sicily, Tuscany, Val d'Aosta.
- Malta: The whole territory.
- Portugal: Two regions: Algarve &
Alentejo.
- United Kingdom: Gibraltar.
- Switzerland: associated to the Programme.
Third Countries eligible to the area, in cooperation
with the following Programmemes Archimedes
&
Cadses.
Moreover,
it is recommended that projects include the associated
countries and MEDA countries (Algeria, Egypt,
Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Palestinian
Territories, Tunisia, Turkey) in order to
extend the territorial development to the whole
Mediterranean Zone.
